Media Release - The Township of Perth South Mourns the Death of Mayor Jim Aitcheson
It is with profound sadness that the Township of Perth South announces the sudden passing of Mayor Jim Aitcheson. Jim began his dedicated service to our community in 2006 as Councillor for the Downie Ward and was acclaimed as Mayor of Perth South in 2022, a role he held until his recent leave of absence.
“We are deeply saddened by Jim’s passing,” said Acting Mayor Sue Orr. “Jim was not only a valued colleague but also a dear friend. His absence will be profoundly felt within the Council and our community. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Jim’s family and friends during this difficult time.”
“The entire staff team at the Township of Perth South is heartbroken by this news,” said Fred Tranquilli, Chief Administrative Officer of Perth South. “Jim was a wonderful person to work with and a tireless advocate for our community. Our thoughts and sympathies are with Jim’s family and friends at this incredibly challenging time.”
Jim had deep roots in the Perth South community, dedicating years of service through his work with the Optimist Club of Downie. He initially worked as a banker for Victoria and Grey Trust before returning in 1984 to purchase and manage his parents’ farm. Jim also served on the board of Quadro Communications, playing a pivotal role in bringing fiber connectivity to Perth South. He was immensely proud of his life in Perth South, where he shared his life with his wife Lori and their children Tracey, Kelly, and Greg.
Flags at the Township’s Administrative Offices in St. Pauls will be flown at half-mast until the day of the funeral. A book of condolences is available at the Township Office for community members to sign.
